Other Events during 2003

Trainer Richie Power remained in charge of Castletown for a second year. The selectors also remained the same.

In the Senior Championship Castletown began with a one point defeat to Portlaoise. This was their first Senior Championship defeat since the first round defeat to Kilcotton in 200. Castletown recovered and accounted for Rathdowney, The Harps and Kilcotton. Clonad were easily beaten in the quarter final. 

In the semi final Balliakill raced into an early lead and Castletown were well behind at half time. Castletown, in a spirited second half performance won the game and qualified for the final against Portlaoise which they won. This was Castletown's third time to defeat Portlaoise in a SHC Final. (1995 & 1999 were the previous occasions).  

In the Leinster Club Championship Castletown scraped past Craobh Chiarain of Dublin in the first round at O' Moore Park 0-14 to 1-9 on Sunday 2nd November. 

Castletown moved on to a semi final v Birr and were dismantled on a scoreline of 4-17 to 1-9.

Castletown Intermediate Hurlers had a good run in the Championship. They qualified for a quarter final where they shocked Shanahoe. Trumera beat them in a semi final after a replay. Castletown squandered a big lead in the drawn game.

Castletown were beaten well beaten in the Minor Championship by The Harps and Tinnahinch.

A weekend away to Ennis was organised for early in the year, attended by almost all of the Senior Panel along with other players and committee members.

A Dinner Dance was held in Castletown Community Centre was held on Saturday March 15th where the 2002 SHC medals were presented.

Patrick Phelan was named Laois Senior Hurler of the Year for 2003.
