Secretary's Report 1998
It gives me great pleasure to present this report as Secretary of Castletown GAA and to welcome everyone to this, our 25th Annual General Meeting.
The year just passed has been a very successful year for the club, playing in seven finals. I would like to congratulate the minors and their selectors on completing the treble, and picking up the U17 title at the start of the year.
The Junior A team brought back a title, at the start of the championship they did not have a full team. I would like to congratulate both players and selectors on the success.
The U21 team lost the final to Rathdowney on the second attempt. I would like to thank both players and selectors on reaching the final.
The Junior B team were well beaten on their first day out by Errill. Experience won on that day but it did help the "A" team win a final.
The Seniors lost their title at the quarter final stage. The team did not play to it's potential on the evening, as well as officials not doing their jobs. I have to thank both players and selectors on the effort they put in.
The football team was pulled out of the championship on behalf of the club.
I congratulate David and Paul Cuddy on their Railway Cup success with Leinster.
There was a Special General Meeting held on the 6th March 1998 to put a Club Constitution in place, while the proposed plans for dressing rooms were displayed in October.
On behalf of the club I would like to thank Mrs. Coss and the I.C.A. for the use of the premises and providing the minors with tea before their finals. I also thank Teasie and Jimmy Cuddy for looking after the jerseys.
The club ran a successful Golf Classic, Fuel Auction and promoted the Carlow Draw. All of them went well.
I would like to thank all who helped the club during the year and also to all who helped me out and the committee for their hard work, Tom Doheny for his assistance and Pat Delaney for his help.
If this club is to stay up it needs more help from the ordinary member. There was only one time this year that we got full co-operation from everyone.
That weekend will not be forgotten for a long time. The club lost a young member in Matthew Peters. It puts everything into place.
I wish the club every success in the coming year. I will not be standing again.
Is Mise,
Pádraig Ó Faoláin

Other Events during 1998
Castletown were controversially beaten in the quarter final of the Laois SHC. Trailing by 3 points with time almost up, a Ger Cuddy goal was disallowed for "square ball". There appeared to be disagreement amongst the umpires. Having consulted with them, however, referee Liam Moran disallowed the goal and Castletown were beaten by 3 points. This was the first time since 1993 that Castletown did not reach the semi final stage.

Castletown minors won the Championship, League and a third "Shield" competition.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
David and Paul Cuddy were on the Leinster Panel for the Railway Cup weekend. Having beaten Munster in the semi final, Connaught were dispatched in the final at Nowlan Park. David started at half forward in both games, while Paul was an unused sub. David scored 0-6 in the semi final, 0-4 from play, and 0-5 in the final from frees.
