Other Events during 2002
Trainer Richie Power joined the Castletown set up during the group stages of the Championship. Ger Hegarty, former Limerick Hurler, had initially committed to training the team but after a few weeks work commitments prevented him from staying on.
Castletown beat Camross in the first round, and also accounted for Rathdowney, St. Kierans* and Clough/Ballacolla before drawing with Portlaoise in the final game.
This saw Castletown claim a semi final spot where they defeated Rathdowney in a nervy semi final 1-7 to 0-7 and beat Tinnahinch once again in the final on a score line of 4-9 to 2-4.
*St Kierans were a combination of Intermediate Clubs Borris in Ossory and Kilcotton. They did not qualify from their group in the Senior Championship but ended up meeting in the final of the Intermediate Championship, with Kilcotton winning.

Castletown drew with Carnew Emmets of Wicklow at O' Moore Park 2-2 to 0-8 in atrocious conditions in the first round of the Leinster Championship. The replay, in Aughrim, was won 2-13 to 1-9 and this set up a quarter final meeting with Birr.
In an enthralling game played in O' Moore Park, Birr emerged victorious on a scoreline of 2-12 too 1-12. Birr hammered St. Mullins of Carlow in the semi final and easily accounted for Young Irelands of Kilkenny in the Leinster Final. Birr, once again, went on to win the All Ireland Final, beating Dunloy of Antrim 1-19 to 0-11 in the All Ireland Final.

Robert Delaney captained Castletown to the O' Brady Cup (ACHL Division 1) win over Camross in the absence of Paul Cuddy. This was Castletown's first O' Brady Cup to win on the field and it reversed the final result of 12 months earlier.
The game was played before the All Ireland U21 Football Final Galway v Dublin (which Galway won 0-15 to 0-7) on Sunday 6th October.
After the football game, the replay of Intermediate Hurling League semi final v Camross took place. Camross won 0-10 to 1-6.
