Secretary's Report 1995
It gives me great pleasure to present this report as Secretary of Castletown GAA and to welcome everyone to this, our 22nd Annual General Meeting.
It is a great honour to be in this position when we won our first Senior and U21 Championships. I also congratulate our Junior B Hurlers on winning the league.
The Senior Hurlers claimed the top prize in Laois Hurling for the first time. They had already lost the O' Brady Cup final to Camross, but that was the game that showed we could beat Camross. The team hurled very bad and only lost by 6 points. The beating of Camross in the semi final was the highlight of my year. Behind the scenes there was a huge effort put in by the mentors and their advisers. We can't afford to lose these men. It's more like these men that the club needs. It was unfortunate that some loyal supporters had passed away before the second Sunday in September 1995 came.
On behalf of the club I would like to thank Mick Dollard and Batt Lynch who put in a huge effort until the split up, and Mick Peters, Paddy Cuddy, Seán Brophy and trainer John O' Sullivan.
The Minor Hurlers were beaten in the semi final by Borris in Ossory. They had a great win over Camross in the first round, but the pressure of the seniors being in the final and very little training or practice matches got, they had little chance. The selectors come to blame most. You can't put two fourteen year olds against two minors in the middle of the field and expect them to turn the game.
On behalf of the club I would like to thank Pat Phelan, Matty Cuddy and Denis Wall.
The Junior Hurlers collected the league title in a great game against Rathdowney. In the Championship they were unlucky. The first day they should have won but they were outclassed in the replay. If the panel can be kept together they can win the championship. On behalf of the club I would like to thank Jack Bergin, Mick Cuddy and Donal Doheny.
The U21 hurlers created the second piece of history for the club by winning the title for the first time. Both players and selectors put in the effort and got their reward. On behalf of the club, I would like to thank John Cuddy, P.J. Mullaney, Pat Phelan, Denis Wall and John O' Sullivan.
The Junior Footballers stepped up a grade and were unlucky not to win. A few practice matches would have brought the team through and might have claimed another title as our opponents did. On behalf of the club I would like to thank Pat Phelan, Gerry Gaughan and Seán Mullaney.
I would also like to thank Bernie Conroy on behalf of the club for his great service, and probably without him we might not have won the senior title.
I would also thank Mrs. Coss and the I.C.A. for the use of their premises and providing us with tea after training and meals after the Championship victories.
The club ran a very successful table quiz and two dances. The club ran also another first with the golf classic. I would like to thank all those who supported us during the year in every event especially the sponsors.
I would mostly like to thank all those who helped me out during the year, Mick Cuddy the most successful Chairman the club ever had winning a championship every year, Bill Delaney and Mick Peters and those on the committee. Batt Lynch for all the practice matches he arranged during the year.
I would like to thank Jimmy and Mrs. Cuddy for looking after the jerseys.
I have been Secretary of this club for the past 4 years and now it is time for a change. It is no longer my number one commitment. I will be there to help out.
I wish the club every success in the coming year.
Is Mise,
Pádraig Ó Faoláin

Although not stated above, Castletown beat Kilcotton 1-15 to 0-4 in the first round of the SHC on Sunday May 14th.
Also Castletown were incorrectly referred to as "Castletown Gaels" in the semi final win over Camross. Castletown had entered the SHC as a parish team in previous years but there was no member of the Slieve Bloom club involved after 1994.
