Secretary's Report 1992
It gives me great pleasure to present this report as Assistant Secretary of Castletown GAA and to welcome everyone to this, our 19th Annual General Meeting.
It also gives me great pleasure to congratulate our Junior A team on winning the championship and league, and the minor team on winning their group in the league and reaching the championship and league finals.
In all, the club played 32 competitive games, participating in the Senior, Junior A, Junior B and Minor Championship and Leagues, as well as the U21 Championship and Junior Football Championship. Of those 32 games, Castletown won 17, drew 2 and lost 13. A number of challenge games were also played.
The Junior A team gave an impressive display against Shanahoe in the Junior A final held in O' Moore Park on 23rd August 1992, even though we had the misfortune of having a player sent off.
In the Junior A League Final which was held in Rathdowney on 24th October we had the pleasure of beating Borris in Ossory in a game in which every player showed full commitment under the guidance of captain John Cuddy. On behalf of the club I would like to thank the selectors and trainer for putting the team together to win a Junior A Championship and League title. I would like to thank Paddy Cuddy, Gerry Gaughan, Mick Cuddy, Mick Peters and Frank Keenan for the effort they put into getting this team right.
Our minors went to a county final as underdogs against a strong Harps team. The Harps proved to be too strong for Castletown, who had only 5 players of minor age towards The Harps' 12. They put up a powerful show, scoring 4-7 over the hour.
They were unfortunate to lose the league final, against The Harps again. Scores were hard to come by, with The Harps scoring the only goal in the second half being the main difference between the sides. I would like to congratulate them on the manner in which they played in both finals. I would like to thank Gerry Gaughan, Pat Phelan, Mick Dollard, Mick Cuddy, Mick Peters, Junior Cuddy and Paddy Cuddy who looked after them during the league.
The U21 team were drawn against Portlaoise in the first round. The match was fixed five times and eventually played at Colt. We were beaten in this game due to a lack of preparation. Portlaoise got a nine point lead on us. The second half went pulling it back and we had a player sent off. We lost by six points.
Our Junior B team had a good run in the championship getting to the semi final and losing to Rathdowney, who were the better team on the evening. The game was lost in the field with some of the players not turning up for training.
Our Senior team were beaten in the first round of the championship by Errill who proved to be a better team on the day. We were drawn against Portlaoise in the losers group. It was played in O' Moore Park, the day after we defeated Borris in Ossory in the Junior A Replay. Portlaoise proved to be a far better team on the day, and showed us the gap between Junior and Senior Hurling.
In the O' Brady Cup we lost our first three games by narrow margins. Three points against Clough/Ballacolla being the biggest defeat. Rathdowney defeated us by two points, when we had an under-strength team that evening, owing to a colleges Leinster final and three brothers not hurling over a football transfer. Portlaoise defeated us by one point in our last game. The Harps were given the points. It will take alot more effort if we are going to reach the knockout stages of a senior championship.
In the Junior Football there was no success during the year, with The Heath defeating us in the first round of the championship. They went on to win the final.
The club organised a celebration meal in the I.C.A. Hall for the Juniors and Minors which was held on Sunday 4th October 1992, and was enjoyed by all. I would like to thank the I.C.A. for the work they put into providing the meal for the occasion.
I would like to thank the selectors for the job each of them done for each team during the year. It is a hard and difficult job, and it takes up alot of time, which alot of people do not realise.
I would like to thank Chairman Mick Cuddy, Treasurer Seán Mullaney and the committee for the help they gave me during the year. I also wish to thank Jimmy and Mrs. Cuddy for the care they took in looking after the jerseys. I would also like to thank the I.C.A. and Oliver Dollard for the use of their premises for meetings during the year at matches.
I would like to congratulate the juvenile club on reaching four underage finals and winning one. It shows that there is still alot of talent at underage level in the club. I would like to thank the adult members of the juvenile club for the work they have put in over the last year. I would also like to thank Slieve Bloom for their co-operation with us during the year.
For the coming year there must be more progress made on the dressing room, which Mick Cuddy has got off the ground with planning permission. Our two suspended players must be looked for back at the mercy meeting.
I will not be putting my name forward for Assistant Secretary or Secretary this year due to other commitments. I wish the club every success in the coming year.
Is Mise,

Other Events during 1992
It was proposed at the AGM that Castletown join with Mountrath for football. It was also proposed that Castletown enter no football team due to a lack of interest. Neither proposal received any support and it was felt that Castletown Club should have a football team.

Please note that Castletown and Slieve Bloom amalgamated as Castletown Gaels for Senior Hurling. Therefore Castletown's first team would have been the Junior A team that won the league and championship.
