Secretary's Report 1988
It gives me great pleasure to present this, my seventh report as Secretary of Castletown GAA Club and to welcome everyone to this, our 15th AGM.
It gives me immense pleasure in congratulating our Minor Hurlers on winning the M.H.C. for the first time in our history, and to add to that the M.H.L as well.
I would like to thank all the players who brought us this great victory and to Pat Phelan and Mick Dollard I sincerely thank them for all their hard work and dedication in bringing the minor title to the club.
Our Senior Hurling team performed very well, just failing to reach the quarter finals. Considering there was very little training done by the majority of the players. What can our Senior team achieve with a full panel of players, dedicated to training? We are a match for any team in the county. Let's hope for better things in 1989.
Our Junior Hurlers did very well in the league and championship considering we had to chop and change players to senior ranks. Hopefully with some of the young players coming along it wont be too long until we win the Junior B Championship.
Our Junior Football team is still a long way from winning the championship. Nevertheless, to our footballers, keep working hard and hopefully in the near future you will gain rewards for your efforts.
I would like to congratulate our Juvenile Club on winning the U15 Championship. Not a year goes by without our Juvenile Club winning some championship. To their chairman and mentors I say - keep up the good work because without you the club's future is bleak.
We ran a very successful Dinner Dance in the Leix County Hotel and a number of cabarets in the Regency Hotel. Also a whist drive in the I.C.A. Hall and a couple of discos but the main bulk of our finance came from the County Board Draw which was very successful. It kept the club solvent through the year along with a balance in the bank. Again, I would like to thank everyone who bought and sold tickets.
Also I would like to thank Seán Mullaney for all his hard work during the year and also our Chairman Mick Peters. I would like to thank our committee members for all they have done and also Gerry Gaughan for his work in building the players shelter. It was a job very well done. Also I would like to thank Seán Brophy for supplying hurleys for the year and the I.C.A. for the use of their hall during the year.
Finally, I hope that 1989 will be as rewarding as 1988, both on the playing field and in the running of the club.
Is Mise,
