Secretary's Report 1987
It gives me great pleasure to present this, my sixth report as Secretary of Castletown GAA Club and to welcome everybody to the club's 14th AGM.
Although I have not the pleasure of congratulating any of our teams on winning any championships in 1987 nevertheless I would like to congratulate our Junior B Hurling team on reaching the county final only to be beaten by Park Ratheniska by a few points. I would like to compliment them on the manner in which the team trained for the championship and none more so than in the semi final in which they served a display of hurling well worthy of a Senior County Final. I would like to thank every member of the team and hope they go one better in the year ahead.
Of our Senior team we expected a lot of them in 1987 but injuries and emigration put paid to our chances of being in there at the finish. As it was we were lucky to escape relegation to Intermediate ranks. Let's hope that 1988 will be much kinder and maybe success will follow in Senior ranks.
To our Minor and Junior Football teams I would like to thank them for the way they played their games in the championship and hope their efforts will get reward in the near future.
Next I would like to compliment our Juvenile Club on a wonderful years work. They never fail to bring home a championship and the year ended was no exception as the U16, U12 and Schools Final were won. It was a great years work. I would like to thank their chairman and mentors for all their work and wish them every success in the year ahead.
Next I would like to thank the I.C.A. for the use of the hall during the year and also Mrs. Coss for catering and making sandwiches for the teams after training. Also I would like to thank Seán Brophy for supplying hurleys when they were needed and also to Mrs. Teresa Cuddy for the washing of jersies whenever they were needed. They were always ready and I thank her sincerely for her hard work.
Finally, I would like to thank our Chairman and Treasurer for their excellent work and the committee and players for all they have done throughout the year.
In conclusion, I hope that in 1988 we can overcome our disappointments on the field of play with a bit more dedication to training, more discipline and teamwork. I'm sure we will achieve our goal in the near future.
Go raibh mile maith agaibh
