Secretary's Report 2000
What a year 2000 was for the Castletown Club taking our first back to back County Senior Hurling Titles. Defeating our neighbours and long time rivals so comprehensively and in such style in the County Final was without doubt the best day of 2000.
We went on to the Leinster Club Semi Final, but having beaten Birr in the quarter final on the previous Saturday, it was difficult to raise the game again v Graigue Ballycallan in the semi final but we went down fighting.
We have less joyful reason to remember 2000 as being the year in which we lost one of our very promising hurlers when Seán Hanlon was killed in a tragic accident that brought us all back down to earth from the highs of 2000.
Great credit is due to all of is in the Club, old and young alike. We, the members and our players all form the great Club that we now have and we must put the club before our own aims and ambitions whether on the playing field or in the boardroom. No person is greater than the club and if individuals have to be sacrificed on the way so be it.
We are now respected as one of the great Clubs of Leinster both on and off the hurling pitch and I hope you will all continue to hold your heads high and do yourselves proud in the year to come. It has been great to work with Mick Phelan, John Delahunty and the committee. Dare I say it we really were "the dream team", lucky to be where we were at the right time.
It is probably, by now, no secret that I have moved to live in Leitrim and must therefore resign as your Secretary but I will continue to follow your activities with great interest and remember you all very fondly.
Guím rath Dé ar an obair.
Is Mise,
Monica Ui Dubhshláine

Trainer Nicky Cashin, from Waterford and a teacher in St Kieran's College Kilkenny became the club trainer during the year. He later went on to manage Kilkenny minors and served as a selector with Waterford Seniors on two separate occasions.

Castletown beat Coill Dubh of Kildare, narrowly, in O' Moore Park in the first round of the Leinster Club Championship. The quarter final v Birr was postponed as Birr was unplayable and was then switched to Portlaoise for the same reason on the morning of the game the following week.
6 days later Graigue/Ballycallan from Kilkenny beat Castletown in the semi final played in Carlow. They went on to win the Leinster Final and were beaten by Athenry, after extra time, in the All Ireland Final. The final was delayed until April due to the "Foot and Mouth" crisis.
