Secretary's Report 1986
It gives me great pleasure to present this, my fifth report as Secretary of Castletown GAA Club. It gives me immense pleasure in congratulating our Intermediate and Minor teams on bringing success to our club in 1986. It brought to an end our disappointments over the last few years. I would like to congratulate our Intermediates on winning the league, championship and Ballyfin Tournament. They gave wonderful displays of hurling throughout the year, particularly in winning the league and championship.
I would like to congratulate our minor team on winning the Michael Lalor Cup, and in doing so winning the league. It brought to an end our years of misgivings and frustrations at minor level. Here's hoping we will go on to better things in the future!
To our Junior Hurlers and Footballers, I would like to thank them for their efforts in both league and championship in 1986. A bit more dedication to training could bring reward in 1987. I would like to pay tribute to all the players for their loyalty and dedication to training during 1986 and none more so than John Bergin, the team captain and trainer who worked so hard, along with Mick O' Sullivan, in guiding the team through the early rounds of the championship up to the semi finals when we engaged Georgie Leahy to put the finishing touches to training and give advice to the players for the final and remaining league games.
I would like to thank Georgie for giving of his time and his expert advice to our club in 1986 and hope he continues his good work in 1987.
I would like to congratulate our Juvenile Club on their achievements during the year, namely winning U12 Championship and schools championship. To their chairman and mentors I congratulate them on a years work well done.
I would like to thank our Chairman, Mick Peters, for all his hard work and loyalty during the year and to Seán Mullaney for his help and hard work in keeping the financial side of the club intact. I'd like to thank Seán Brophy for supplying hurleys throughout the year and also I would like to thank my wife for all her hard work in cleaning of jerseys for all our games. I would like to thank all our selectors and committee members for their work during the year.
I suppose our only sadness was the loss of a very good club man, namely Johnny Cuddy. His death will leave a void in this club for a long time. Also his brother Fint, who was a loyal friend and supporter to this club. Also a former secretary of the club went to his eternal reward during the year, namely Tommie Campion.
They will always be in our prayers.
May they Rest in Peace.
In conclusion, I hope that 1987 will bring more triumphs and rewards to the club, as 1986 did.
Go raibh mile maith agaibh
